The Dutch Climate Coalition
During the National Sustainability Congress in “’t Spant” in Bussum on Tuesday November 3rd, Triodos Bank along with several other companies signed the Dutch Climate Coalition. The Dutch Climate Coalition is an initiative of MVO Nederland, Natuur & Milieu, Klimaatverbond Nederland, and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment. Since inception, the Dutch Climate Coalition has grown to over 300 organisations, institutions, governments, and NGOs who have pledged climate neutral operations by 2050.
The significance of the signature
By signing this initiative, Triodos Bank continues to stress the importance of raising awareness about climate change and the role in which we play – as a company, as individuals, and within society – to positively affect it and continue a low-carbon future.
Jacco Minnaar, Director of Energy & Climate, who signed on behalf of Triodos Bank said: “Triodos Bank has been working for more than 30 years to increase the share of renewable energy. The Dutch Climate Coalition and other initiatives in related to the climate summit in Paris, all raise awareness of the need to take action now against climate change.”
The role of the financial sector
Triodos Bank believes that the financial sector as a whole can and should play an instrumental role in driving the urgent transition from a carbon-based economy to a sustainable one. Therefore, it is essential to increase clean energy demand and invest massively in renewable energy systems, while switching to low carbon fuels.
Jacco Minnaar: “For Triodos Bank, this is an incentive to investors, project developers and other stakeholders to further accelerate the pace of the transition to renewable energy.”
